About

Jonathan Wittmaier is a Korean American multi-genre, multidisciplinary artist. A writer by trade, he received his BA in English Language and Literature from Montclair State University in 2016 and his MFA in Creative Writing from Adelphi University in 2018.

He is a Pushcart Prize nominee and recipient of Creative Writing Award for Dramatic Writing from Adelphi University. His writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Water~Stone Review, Philadelphia Stories Magazine, BRAWL Lit, The Rising Phoenix Review and Weave (a zine created by PNW Kundiman).

A transracial adoptee—he was born Seoul, South Korea and grew up in New Jersey. He has written about his experience in publications such as Rewriting Adoption, Eunoia Review, VISIBLE Magazine, the museum of americana: A LITERARY REVIEW and more.

A lifelong educator, he has taught English and creative writing at Suffolk County Community College and Adelphi University, where he also served as the Manager of the University Libraries. He currently hosts Unsung Poetry, a poetry reading series at Seattle University, where he serves as the Manager of the Student Resource Network.

He recently relocated to the Pacific Northwest from New York City to open Kemi Dessert Bar with his wife. He is the lead singer and primary songwriter for The Desolation Saints, a blues-inspired grunge-rock band based in Seattle, Washington.
